A young homeless man was found dead near the Central Station: the fourth since the beginning of the year.

He had no identification; they saw him this morning shortly before 8:00 a.m. in Piazza Luigi di Savoia

The railway police discovered the body shortly before 8:00 a.m. yesterday: a young homeless man was found lifeless in Piazza Luigi di Savoia, on the east side of Milan's Central Station. He had no identification, looked around 25 years old, and was lying next to a flowerbed and two kiosks not far from the airport shuttle bus stops. The cause of death is still being investigated. Initial investigations at the scene revealed no obvious signs of violence. Among the theories regarding the cause of death, one is related to the low temperatures of the last few nights.

"They took him away quickly; there were a lot of police," said the owner of one of the two kiosks overlooking the spot where he was found. "It's always sad when these things happen, especially when the victim is so young," adds the bartender at the second kiosk. "We often see homeless people in this area, and surviving outside, even for just one night, in this cold, must be incredibly difficult," he continues.

Yesterday morning's death is already the fourth homeless death recorded in Milan since the beginning of the year. The last case dates back to January 16, on Via Padova, where a man in his 40s was found dead under an overpass, likely due to the cold. A few days earlier, near the Cadorna metro station, another lifeless body had been found by Areu rescuers and the Carabinieri. Only fingerprint tests made it possible to identify him: Gharia Narendra Singi, a 51-year-old Indian citizen. The first death of the year was that of Andrea Colombo, 34, on Via Impastato, not far from the Bosco di Rogoredo, found in very serious condition. He was rushed to the Policlinico hospital in Milan, where he died shortly thereafter.

Already in those weeks, the Municipality, in collaboration with private social services, had strengthened reception services, making 555 additional places available in public dormitories, in addition to the more than a thousand available throughout the year. The current situation seems to confirm the alarming data from 2025. According to the Italian Federation of Organizations for the Homeless, in the year just ended, Lombardy confirmed its position as the region with the highest number of homeless deaths: 78 homeless deaths, of which 27 in the Milan metropolitan area alone, placing it immediately second after Rome.
