Santanchè: "We're working on revising the school calendar." The ministry: "No concrete plans."

According to the minister, avoiding concentrating holidays in the summer and Christmas periods would help "promote the well-being of families and the growth of the national tourism sector."

"We want an Italy that can be experienced 365 days a year, enjoying 100% of the territory and eliminating the peaks that generate inefficiencies and unsustainability." This was stated by Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè during the Third International Tourism Forum currently underway at the Palazzo del Ghiaccio in Milan. One of the minister's proposals is to "gradually align the school calendar with more modern European models," thus avoiding concentrating holidays in two distinct periods of the year. For Santanché, concentrating holidays in the summer and Christmas periods "does not facilitate domestic tourism because it generates seasonal crowds and limits the possibility for families to travel during periods other than the high season." The project, the minister further explains, is already being discussed with Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara and would aim to deseasonalize tourist flows, promoting the well-being of families and the growth of the national tourism sector.

The Ministry of Education, however, is holding back on this point. "At present," sources close to the ministry headed by Valditara say, "there are no concrete proposals to work on for revising the school calendar. Any proposals will be evaluated at the appropriate time."

During the Forum, Santanchè also listed some key points for growing tourism year-round and throughout Italy: in addition to the proposed revision of the school calendar, a structural reform of businesses and their size would be envisaged. "We must commit our best energies to combat the minimalism of tourism businesses," she continued, also highlighting the importance of human capital management: "If a business grows, those who work there must also grow."

Finally, the minister emphasized the need for new European financial instruments to "fill market failures and strengthen strategic autonomy and competitiveness" and the need for an efficient public administration for Italian businesses.
