Olympics: How to get to Cortina from Milan and where to park

During the Games, it will be difficult to reach the competition venue by private transport from the Lombardy capital: here are the fastest options by car, train, and bus.

Temporary restricted traffic zones (ZTLs), resident passes, parking outside the city center, and shuttle services. During the Olympic Games, Cortina will be difficult to reach by private transport from Milan. For the occasion, temporary restricted traffic zones (ZTLs) have been introduced within the municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo to regulate traffic. They will be active only on competition days, from February 6 to 22 for the Olympics and from March 6 to 15 for the Paralympics.

During the days in which they are active, access is permitted exclusively to vehicles with the "Territorial Auto Pass." The pass is guaranteed to certain categories of applicants, including residents and owners of second homes, limiting access to private vehicles. Furthermore, upon request on the dedicated platform or even on the day at dedicated points, daily car passes are available for those who need to access the limited traffic areas occasionally, including occasional guests and suppliers. Anyone without a car pass will be able to drive beyond the central areas of Cortina d'Ampezzo only during the time slots when the limited traffic zones are not active. Reaching Cortina by car will therefore be difficult, but not impossible.

Three Park & Ride car parks are available and must be booked on the dedicated website: Toblach/Dobbiaco, San Vito Longarone, and Son dei Prade. From each of these car parks, shuttles will depart to the "Cortina sud bus terminal spectator" and the "Cortina ovest bus terminal spectator," from which the Olympic venues can be reached in a twenty-minute walk.

Public transport is therefore the ideal solution. For the occasion, Trenitalia has introduced a "train + bus" offer for Cortina race ticket holders. The route departs from Venice, Treviso, or Padua, which can be reached from Milan by interregional or high-speed trains. Once you reach the Ponte nelle Alpi-Polpet station, you can take a shuttle to the south terminal and walk about twenty minutes to the Olympic venues. Another option for reaching Cortina is with organized buses, such as those operated by various fan clubs. In this case, the bus can reach the Acquabona parking lot, which must be booked and paid for, and then take a shuttle service to the south terminal. For those departing from Milan and staying near the municipality of Cortina d'Ampezzo, there will be an enhanced service on line 30 Calalzo-Cortina and the Cortina urban lines, which have also been strengthened. One last way to reach Cortina is Flixbus, which, in the absence of direct connections from Milan, has expanded its service. During the Olympics, two daily trips will operate between Milan Lampugnano and Cortina, departing at 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
